The proposed Skeleton Coast Conservancy would create a carefully planned conservation and economic buffer around Namibia’s extraordinary Skeleton Coast National Park.
The concept is particularly suited to Namibia’s established conservancy tradition, creating an opportunity to connect neighbouring communities, private-sector tourism interests and conservation stakeholders within a unified destination and land-use framework. The vision is to protect one of the world’s most distinctive desert-coastal ecosystems while developing carefully controlled nature-based tourism, conservation enterprises, wildlife corridors and community economic opportunities.
As a Namibian pilot for the National Park Conservancy model, Skeleton Coast could demonstrate how an iconic national park can become the ecological anchor of a much larger, community-inclusive conservation destination.
