Loango Conservancy
The Loango Conservancy would establish a thriving, community-led buffer and sustainable development landscape around Loango National Park, one of Gabon’s most extraordinary protected areas and a globally recognised landscape where rainforest, savannah, wetlands and Atlantic coastline meet. The proposed conservancy would bring neighbouring communities, the Gabonese authorities, conservation organisations, tourism operators and private-sector partners together around a shared destination vision-strengthening land-use planning and community governance while creating sustainable economic opportunities linked to ecotourism, wildlife, fisheries, sustainable agriculture and nature-based enterprises.
Developed as a potential Gabon country pilot for the National Park Community Conservancy model and Rewilding Africa CIC’s two-phased programme, the Loango Conservancy would seek to transform the park’s surrounding landscape into a connected people-and-nature destination, demonstrating how conservation, community development and responsible investment can work together to create long-term value for both local communities and Gabon’s globally important natural heritage.
