The Etosha Conservancy is proposed as Namibia’s national pilot for the National Park Community Conservancy (NPC) model, creating a thriving, nature-positive buffer around Etosha National Park that connects conservation, communities and sustainable economic development. Advocated by Rewilding Africa CIC through its Global National Parks Campaign, the initiative would be developed collaboratively with Namibia’s Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT), local community leaders, conservancies, NGOs, conservation organisations and the private sector.
Through a two-phase programme, the Etosha Conservancy would first establish a shared destination vision, brand, investment strategy and stakeholder platform, before progressing into detailed conservancy planning, land-use zoning, governance, community enterprise development, responsible tourism concessions, landscape restoration and long-term management. The ambition is to strengthen wildlife corridors and ecological resilience while creating new opportunities for community ownership, livelihoods, investment and nature-positive tourism—ensuring that the landscapes surrounding Etosha become an integral part of the park’s long-term conservation and economic future.
