Congo Basin Conservancy

The Congo Basin Conservancy represents a landscape-scale opportunity to protect and restore one of the world’s most important tropical forest ecosystems while placing surrounding communities at the centre of its future. The concept would seek to connect protected forests, community lands and other conservation areas through sustainable land-use planning, forest protection, biodiversity conservation and nature-based enterprise.

With the Congo Basin storing globally significant carbon and supporting extraordinary biodiversity, the Conservancy could become a major platform for combining community livelihoods with rainforest protection, biodiversity finance, carbon opportunities and responsible ecotourism.
