The Loziba Wildlife Reserve development company is inviting investors from around the globe to help us realise the magnificent Vision to establish a private / community big 5 wildlife reserve on the existing Mawana Game Reserve and the surrounding private and community land, that will be a significant, ecologically sustainable wildlife conservation project.

Loziba Wildlife Reserve will be a landscape of significance. It will link private owners, communities and conservationists, in an equitable, socially cohesive, environmentally responsible and economically thriving showcase of excellence.

The project is being driven by African Conservancies, along with the Project Rhino collaborative, which brings more than 30 stakeholders together in the KZN landscape to combat wildlife crime and Build the Conservation Economy and will ultimately consist of up to 47 farms, owned by private individuals, community trusts, companies, and private trusts, and will be approximately 30 000 – 40 000 ha in extent.

Ecologically, the landscape is diverse, and a perfect habitat for the Endangered Black Rhino. Already the core Loziba Wildlife Reserve farms and neighbours boast a herd of 42 elephant, as well as other iconic species such as giraffe, wildebeest, hyena, kudu, nyala, leopard and lion. Populations of plains game and kudu in particular are plentiful despite the recent drought.

There are a number of existing homesteads, lodges and potential building sites on the various farms that may be repurposed to lodge accommodations. We are planning to offer 10 concession rights for investors to develop their own private or going concern lodge/camp.

The development costs we still require to raise, include fencing and road infrastructure development, planning and zonation approvals, upgrading of private dwellings, and location of sites, refurbishment of existing tourism and accommodation infrastructure.

The road infrastructure is currently functional yet rudimentary and will be upgraded and expanded to maximise viewing experience, research initiatives and conservation patrol efforts. No electrical lines will be visible, and all new buildings will be completely off-grid. Solar powered water reticulation systems will serve the Loziba Wildlife Reserve and its inhabitants. The existing two significant rivers in the Loziba Wildlife Reserve, the Thaka and Swart Imfolozi flow throughout the year, and there are many dams that provide watering points for game. The Mawana Mountain is a sacred site, with magnificent views over the Loziba Wildlife Reserve.

The landscape is diverse, with many secluded valleys, rocky hillsides, sweeping grass plains and riverine options, with all the concessions having privacy and intimacy in a sublime space.

The project is expected to be implemented over a 3 to 5 year period, and will ultimately be a Place of Healing, a Black Rhino and Elephant sanctuary and a conservation economy model of excellence, offering more than a simple return on investment, but a legacy investment into Africa’s future, within easy access to Africa’s major cities of Durban and Gauteng.

Loziba wildlife Reserve is situated east of the town of Vryheid in KwaZulu-Natal’s Zululand Biodiversity Economy Node, within the Umkhanyakude District Municipality, adjacent to the recently established Babanango Reserve and is 3.5 hours drive from Durban, and 5 hours from Gauteng.
