Boma–Badingilo Conservancy

The Boma–Badingilo Conservancy is proposed as South Sudan’s flagship pilot for the National Park Conservancy model advocated by Rewilding Africa CIC and its Global National Parks Campaign. The concept is to establish a “Thrive Buffer” around Boma and Badingilo National Parks, connecting the protected areas with surrounding community landscapes, wildlife corridors, pastoral grazing areas, natural resources and sustainable economic opportunities. Rather than creating another protected-area management structure, the Conservancy would complement the existing role of the South Sudan Wildlife Service (SSWS) and African Parks, bringing together government, communities, traditional leaders, NGOs and private-sector partners around a shared landscape plan.

The proposed two-phase programme would first build the Boma–Badingilo destination brand, awareness and stakeholder platform, before progressing to comprehensive land-use planning, natural-resource assessment, community governance, investment facilitation, sustainable tourism and enterprise development, landscape restoration and long-term conservancy management. The ambition is to demonstrate how people, wildlife, conservation and investment can thrive together at landscape scale, creating a replicable model for national parks across South Sudan and Africa.
