Gola Rainforest Conservancy

The Gola Rainforest Conservancy would focus on protecting and restoring the extraordinary Upper Guinean rainforest landscape spanning Sierra Leone and Liberia. The initiative could strengthen forest connectivity, biodiversity protection and community stewardship while developing sustainable livelihood opportunities and nature-based enterprises.

Gola’s importance extends far beyond its national boundaries: protecting this remaining rainforest is critical for threatened species, ecosystem services and climate resilience, while a transboundary conservation economy could provide communities with a stronger economic reason to maintain the forest rather than convert it.
