Maputo Conservancy

The Maputo Conservancy would seek to build a connected conservation landscape around the Maputo Special Reserve and wider Maputo–Lubombo region, linking communities, protected areas and private conservation interests. Its strategic importance lies in the opportunity to strengthen ecological connectivity across a highly valuable coastal and savanna ecosystem while developing sustainable tourism, community enterprise and other nature-positive economic activities.

The Conservancy could form part of a wider transboundary conservation economy linking southern Mozambique with neighbouring conservation landscapes in South Africa and Eswatini.
