Queen Elizabeth Conservancy

Queen Elizabeth Conservancy would be developed as a landscape-scale community-led conservation and destination development initiative surrounding Queen Elizabeth National Park, connecting the park’s exceptional savannah, wetlands, forests, lakes and wildlife with the communities and tourism economy of the surrounding landscape. The pilot would seek to complement existing Uganda Wildlife Authority conservation and community programmes by developing a unified destination brand and investment proposition focused on wildlife conservation, community enterprise, sustainable tourism, cultural experiences, landscape restoration and nature-positive economic development.

Particular opportunity exists to connect the park’s iconic wildlife and Kazinga Channel with the wider Rwenzori and western Uganda tourism circuit, creating greater economic opportunities for neighbouring communities while strengthening the long-term conservation value of the landscape. The initiative would be developed in partnership with UWA, government, district authorities, communities, NGOs and private-sector stakeholders, establishing Queen Elizabeth as a flagship example of community-led conservation and sustainable destination development in Uganda.
